Singapore Airlines is preparing a major onboard technology upgrade from 2027, with a next-generation KrisWorld entertainment system, 4K displays and phased Starlink Wi-Fi installation. The changes will be introduced progressively on selected Airbus A350 aircraft and the airline’s future Boeing 777-9 fleet, with connectivity also planned for Airbus A380 aircraft.
The programme is designed to improve the long-haul experience for passengers who want better entertainment, faster internet access and more personalised features while flying between continents. However, the exact facilities available will depend on the aircraft and cabin class operating each flight.
What is changing on Singapore Airlines flights?
The upgraded KrisWorld system will combine higher-resolution screens, expanded entertainment and easier navigation. Singapore Airlines says the platform will offer more than 2,500 films, television programmes, music selections, podcasts and other digital options.
The entertainment library is expected to be refreshed monthly. A redesigned interface will include improved search and filtering tools, a mini-player for continuing content while browsing, and shortcuts to favourite categories.
Passengers who sign in with a KrisFlyer account will receive additional personalisation. Depending on the aircraft and system configuration, they may be able to:
- Receive recommendations based on previous viewing habits
- Save favourite titles
- Continue programmes started on an earlier flight
- View information about connecting Singapore Airlines flights from Singapore, including gates and terminals
4K screens, spatial audio and Bluetooth pairing
The new system will introduce 4K touchscreen technology on equipped aircraft, providing sharper images and more detail than conventional inflight screens. Some aircraft and cabins will also feature OLED displays with stronger contrast.
Screen sizes will vary. First Class passengers on equipped aircraft are scheduled to receive displays measuring up to 32 inches, while Business Class screens will measure up to 22 inches. On the Boeing 777-9, Premium Economy screens will measure up to 16 inches and Economy screens up to 13 inches.
Audio is also being upgraded. Spatial audio will create a more immersive sound experience, while active noise-cancelling headphones will help reduce cabin background noise. Bluetooth pairing will allow eligible passengers to connect compatible personal headphones.
Bluetooth availability will not be identical across the fleet. The Boeing 777-9 is planned to offer Bluetooth audio pairing in all cabin classes, while the feature will be more limited on retrofitted Airbus A350 aircraft.
Starlink Wi-Fi rollout begins in 2027
Singapore Airlines plans to progressively introduce Starlink high-speed satellite internet from early 2027. The service uses low-Earth-orbit satellites and is intended to support smoother access to online services throughout the flight, from take-off to landing on equipped aircraft.
Passengers should be able to use the connection for activities such as:
- Streaming online content
- Messaging friends, family and colleagues
- Using social media
- Playing online games
- Completing work-related tasks
The airline has also said its existing unlimited complimentary Wi-Fi arrangements will continue for eligible passengers on Starlink-enabled aircraft. Suites, First Class and Business Class customers, PPS Club members, and KrisFlyer members travelling in Premium Economy or Economy are included under the stated arrangements, subject to eligibility and aircraft availability.
Which Singapore Airlines aircraft will receive the upgrades?
The new KrisWorld system is scheduled to be installed progressively on 41 refurbished Airbus A350-900 long-haul and A350-900 ultra-long-range aircraft. These aircraft are expected to enter service with the upgraded system from 2027.
The platform will also be introduced on the upcoming Boeing 777-9 fleet. Separately, Starlink connectivity is planned for Airbus A380, A350-900 long-haul and A350-900ULR aircraft, with the wider installation programme expected to be completed by the end of 2029.
This means the entertainment system and Wi-Fi rollout are related but not identical. An aircraft may be scheduled for Starlink connectivity without being part of the 41-aircraft KrisWorld retrofit programme.
Wellness tools will support long-haul passengers
The redesigned system will include a wellness planner aimed at helping passengers manage rest and comfort during long journeys. Planned content includes sleep and meditation audio, breathing exercises, seated stretching videos and general healthy-living information.
First Class and Business Class passengers will receive additional guidance on seat positioning and cabin lighting. Beverage recommendations will be available across cabin classes. These features are particularly relevant on overnight and ultra-long-haul services, where passengers may want to alternate between entertainment, work and sleep.
What should passengers know before booking?
The upgrades will be phased in rather than introduced across every Singapore Airlines service at once. Travellers should therefore avoid assuming that a particular feature will be available simply because the airline has announced it.
Before departure, passengers should:
- Check the aircraft type shown in their booking details
- Review the cabin-specific facilities listed by Singapore Airlines
- Confirm Wi-Fi eligibility and whether the aircraft is Starlink-enabled
- Bring compatible headphones if they want to use Bluetooth pairing
- Keep important work or entertainment available offline in case onboard connectivity changes
The airline is also planning USB-C charging on the Boeing 777-9 and retrofitted Airbus A350 cabins. Wireless charging will be available in selected First Class and Business Class seats. Further details about the wider cabin experience are expected to be unveiled in Singapore in November 2026.
What the upgrade means for international travellers
For passengers flying long-haul with Singapore Airlines, the rollout could make the time onboard more flexible. A broader entertainment library may appeal to families and frequent travellers, while faster connectivity could be useful for people who need to communicate or work during a journey.
Travellers from Ireland connecting through Singapore should pay particular attention to the aircraft assigned to each sector. The improvements may be available on one flight but not another, even when both services are operated by the same airline.
Singapore Airlines’ 2027 upgrade will be introduced gradually, not as an immediate fleet-wide change. The most reliable way to confirm what is available is to check the aircraft, cabin and onboard services attached to the specific booking before travelling.
