Saint Lucia has launched a new international tourism showcase designed to move beyond traditional beach-and-resort promotion and give global travel professionals a closer look at the island’s communities, culture and emerging visitor experiences.
Held from 16 to 20 September, the first Saint Lucia Showcase International brought together more than 100 tourism delegates from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. The event offers a fresh direction for Saint Lucia tourism by connecting international buyers directly with local operators, entrepreneurs and community projects.
A new approach to Saint Lucia tourism promotion
Organised under the theme “Welcome to Our World… Welcome to Our Communities,” the showcase focused on firsthand experiences rather than conventional destination advertising. Delegates took part in business meetings, site visits, cultural activities and community-based excursions across the island.
The aim is to help travel companies and media representatives understand the full range of experiences available in Saint Lucia. These include cultural attractions, food and farming initiatives, adventure activities, marine experiences and locally operated tourism businesses.
For travellers, the strategy could eventually mean a broader choice of tours and holiday itineraries beyond the island’s established hotels and major attractions. It also reflects a wider shift in Caribbean travel, with visitors increasingly looking for authentic encounters and activities that connect them with local people and places.
Community tourism takes a central role
Community tourism is one of the main pillars of the new initiative. Saint Lucia’s tourism authorities want visitor spending to reach more areas of the island and support a wider range of small businesses.
The Community Tourism Agency is helping connect international travel professionals with local entrepreneurs, artists, farmers and experience providers. Showcase activities included opportunities to explore:
- Local art and cultural spaces
- Farm-to-table and agricultural experiences
- Outdoor activities, including ATV and electric-bike tours
- Traditional products linked to coastal communities
- Community-led projects and local heritage initiatives
This approach is intended to create additional income streams while preserving cultural traditions and strengthening the role of residents in the tourism economy. It may also encourage visitors to spend more time exploring different parts of Saint Lucia rather than concentrating their trips around a small number of resort areas.
Below Saint Lucia adds a new marine attraction
A major project presented during the showcase was Below Saint Lucia, an underwater sculpture park combining art, history, education and marine conservation.
The attraction is based on sculptures inspired by Saint Lucia’s heritage and community stories. Its development included consultation with local communities, which produced about 31 proposals for possible themes and ideas. Specialists connected with the island’s history, culture and heritage also contributed to the design process.
The sculptures have been installed, although preparations were still continuing before the attraction officially opened to visitors. Plans for the project include opportunities to learn about marine ecosystems, conservation, swimming and ocean monitoring.
Below Saint Lucia could broaden the island’s appeal for visitors interested in diving, snorkelling, underwater art and responsible marine tourism. However, travellers should check official information for opening arrangements and access details before making plans, as the attraction was not yet confirmed as fully open in the information available for the showcase.
Latin America identified as a growth market
Although the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe remain important source markets, Saint Lucia is also seeking stronger links with Latin America. Delegates from the region attended the inaugural showcase, giving local tourism providers an opportunity to develop new commercial relationships.
The next major step is the CTO Latin America Market Summit, scheduled to take place in Saint Lucia in May 2027. The event is expected to bring together tourism buyers, travel agents, sellers and industry representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Expanding into new markets may help Saint Lucia diversify its visitor base and reduce reliance on a limited number of international sources. It also creates opportunities for airlines, tour operators and accommodation providers to develop products aimed at different travel preferences and regional markets.
What the showcase means for future visitors
The event does not announce an immediate change to entry requirements, flight schedules or hotel bookings. Instead, it represents a longer-term tourism development programme intended to improve the range and visibility of experiences available on the island.
Travellers planning a Saint Lucia holiday may see the impact through:
- More community-led tours and cultural activities
- Greater visibility for local restaurants, farms and creative businesses
- New marine and adventure attractions
- Holiday itineraries covering more regions of the island
- Additional partnerships between local operators and international travel companies
Visitors should confirm availability, safety guidance, transport arrangements and opening dates directly with operators or official tourism channels before booking individual activities.
A broader Caribbean tourism strategy
The Saint Lucia Showcase International is part of a wider effort to strengthen infrastructure, air connectivity, destination marketing and tourism products. The emphasis is not solely on increasing visitor numbers but also on improving the value of tourism and spreading its economic benefits.
By combining international business meetings with direct community experiences, Saint Lucia is positioning its tourism sector around local identity, innovation and sustainability. The model may also provide a framework for developing new products that respond to demand for cultural, educational and environmentally responsible travel.
For international travel professionals, the showcase creates a practical way to assess the island’s offerings. For visitors, its longer-term importance will depend on how successfully the new partnerships translate into bookable, accessible and well-supported experiences.
The outlook for Saint Lucia tourism
The first Saint Lucia Showcase International signals a shift towards more inclusive and experience-led destination development. Community tourism, the Below Saint Lucia marine project and stronger Latin American connections are central to that direction.
The most important takeaway for future visitors is that Saint Lucia is expanding its tourism offer beyond traditional resort holidays. Travellers should monitor official tourism updates and individual operators for confirmed launch dates, availability and booking information as new experiences are brought to market.
