An unexpected New York street interview has become a daily trending topic after Irish aspiring actress Ella Dunn stopped Jason Isaacs without realising she was speaking to the actor behind one of the Harry Potter franchise’s most recognisable characters.
Irish actress gets a surprise Jason Isaacs interview
Dunn, who moved from Belfast to New York to pursue acting, regularly creates street interviews and theatre-related content for TikTok. During one encounter, she asked a passer-by to introduce himself, only to discover that he was Jason Isaacs.
Isaacs responded modestly when Dunn asked whether audiences might know him from any films. He jokingly suggested they probably would not before mentioning his appearances in the Harry Potter films and HBO’s The White Lotus. The revelation left Dunn visibly stunned, turning the exchange into a viral social media moment.
Her video, shared through the account @frombelfasttobroadway, attracted more than one million views according to the source article. The clip quickly became a daily trending topic among viewers familiar with Isaacs’ work.
Who did Jason Isaacs play in Harry Potter?
When Dunn asked which character Isaacs portrayed, he explained that he played Lucius Malfoy. Isaacs appeared as the aristocratic Death Eater in the Harry Potter films between 2002 and 2011, making the interview particularly amusing for fans of the series.
Dunn explained that Harry Potter books and films had not been allowed in her religious household while she was growing up. Her genuine lack of recognition made the exchange feel spontaneous rather than staged, and viewers embraced the unusual celebrity encounter.
Jason Isaacs offers advice to young creatives
The conversation developed beyond a funny celebrity interaction when Isaacs offered encouragement to Dunn and other emerging performers. He advised young creatives to make their own work, share it publicly and build a direct relationship with their audience.
His message was especially relevant to Dunn, who is using short-form video to develop her profile while pursuing acting opportunities in New York. Rather than focusing on recognition, Isaacs encouraged her to continue creating and publishing her work.
