Europe has made a strong showing in the 2026 World’s 50 Best Bars ranking, with 18 venues included in the global top 50. Milan’s Moebius Milano was the continent’s highest entry in second place, while Athens’ Line reached fifth and Paris overtook London as the best-represented European city.
The results were announced at a ceremony in Milan on Wednesday, 8 October 2026. Hong Kong’s Bar Leone retained the overall title for a second consecutive year, but European venues occupied several of the highest positions and accounted for more than a third of the combined top-100 list.
Europe’s leading bars in the 2026 ranking
Italy had particular reason to celebrate. Moebius Milano climbed from seventh place in the previous ranking to number two worldwide, making it the highest-ranked bar in Europe. The Milan venue combines cocktails, food, music and design inside a former textile factory, creating a setting that reflects the city’s contemporary cultural scene.
Line in Athens was the second-highest European entry, reaching fifth place. Its menu centres on fermentation and Greek ingredients, with many syrups, fruit preparations and other components produced in-house.
Other European venues in the top 10 included London’s Connaught Bar, which placed eighth. The ranking also highlighted established cocktail destinations and emerging scenes across the continent.
The European cities with the most entries
Paris became the most represented European city for the first time, with four bars in the global top 50:
- The Cambridge Public House at number 13
- Bar Nouveau at number 15
- De Vie at number 23
- Danico at number 26
Paris was level with Hong Kong and New York for the highest number of venues from one city. London followed with three entries: Connaught Bar at number eight, Satan’s Whiskers at 29 and newcomer Waltz at 32.
Athens also had three venues in the ranking. Alongside Line, The Bar in Front of the Bar climbed 28 places to number 19 and received the Nikka Highest Climber Award. Barro Negro completed the Greek capital’s entries at number 40.
Italy, Spain and the wider European picture
Italy’s second entry was Locale Firenze in Florence, ranked 33rd. Spain also placed three bars in the top 50: Barcelona’s Sips at 16 and Paradiso at 17, plus Madrid newcomer Angelita at number 50. Paradiso received the Rémy Martin Legend of the List Award.
Europe’s representation extended beyond the cities with multiple entries. Oslo’s Himkok ranked 24th, Bratislava’s Mirror Bar placed 34th, and Tirana’s Nouvelle Vague entered at number 43. Taken together, the results point to a broad and diverse European cocktail landscape rather than a concentration in only the continent’s largest capitals.
The ranking body also reported 18 European venues in the extended positions 51 to 100. That means Europe accounted for more than one-third of all places across the two published lists.
The world’s top five bars in 2026
- Bar Leone, Hong Kong – Founded by Italian bartender Lorenzo Antinori, the venue is inspired by the atmosphere of a traditional Roman neighbourhood bar and focuses on classic Italian aperitivo.
- Moebius Milano, Milan – A former industrial space offering classic and experimental cocktails alongside food, music and design.
- Alquímico, Cartagena – A three-storey bar in a restored colonial mansion, using Colombian ingredients and seasonal techniques.
- Bar Us, Bangkok – An intimate venue built around a tasting-menu approach to cocktails and seasonal flavours.
- Line, Athens – A fermentation-focused bar that places Greek produce at the centre of its drinks programme.
What the ranking means for European destinations
The list is closely followed by travellers, bartenders and hospitality professionals, making it an influential guide to international drinking culture. Its results can also raise the profile of neighbourhoods and cities that are building reputations around food, design and nightlife.
For travellers, the 2026 ranking offers several distinct European routes. Milan provides a combination of industrial design and modern cocktail culture; Athens highlights fermentation and local produce; Paris offers the greatest concentration of ranked venues; and London continues to retain a strong international presence.
However, the ranking is a guide rather than an official measure of quality across the whole continent. It reflects the views and methodology of the organisation behind the awards, and many highly regarded bars will not appear in the top 50.
