Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians travelling through south Dublin should allow extra time this week as multiple road closures, resurfacing projects and traffic controls remain active across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. The latest Dublin news update covers arrangements in place from 3 to 9 October 2026, alongside several upcoming closures linked to major infrastructure and community projects.
The council’s information was current at 4pm on 1 October. Emergency works may be introduced without advance notice, so road users should check signs and follow instructions from traffic management crews.
Dublin news: key closures and restrictions
A temporary 50 km/h limit continues westbound on Wyattville Link Road, between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road. The restriction supports construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass and is expected to remain until 30 November, or until the work finishes.
Brides Glen Road in Shankill is closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road while a large watermain is installed. The closure is scheduled to continue until 28 November, with signed diversions available.
Mounttown Road Lower remains northbound-only between Kill Avenue and York Road. Southbound motorists must use the signed diversion. This temporary arrangement is part of the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme and is expected to continue until the end of October.
Other works affecting journeys
- Silchester Road, Glenageary: partial closure on 9 October from 10am to 4pm.
- Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines: closure between Brambledown and Enniskerry Road.
- Barnaslingan Lane: permanent closure to through traffic, while walking and cycling access remains available.
- Night resurfacing on Nutgrove Way, Rathfarnham, continuing until 7 October.
- Pedestrian crossing upgrades on Leopardstown Link Road until 19 October.
Further utility, drainage, resurfacing and reinstatement works are scheduled in areas including Blackrock, Dalkey, Dundrum, Foxrock, Killiney, Sandyford, Shankill and Loughlinstown.

Upcoming Dublin Marathon and Foxrock closures
Sections of Clonskeagh Road, Roebuck Road, Foster’s Avenue and Stillorgan Road may close on Sunday, 25 October, for the Irish Life Dublin Marathon. The proposed closure period is 9.20am to 4.30pm and includes the route between the UCD Flyover and the Dublin City boundary. Public observations or objections must be submitted by noon on 7 October.
Torquay Road in Foxrock is also proposed for closure between Leopardstown Road and Golf Lane from 27 October to 1 November, daily from 8am to 6pm, to facilitate gas works. Local and pedestrian access will be maintained.
Active travel and school safety projects
Works continue on the Dodder Greenway at the Orwell Road and Braemor Park junctions. Dodder Road Lower now operates permanently westbound from Orwell Road towards Ely’s Arch, with diversions where required. Completion is expected by the end of 2026.
Major construction at several Safe Routes to School locations, including schools in Dundrum, Blackrock, Monkstown and Eden Road Lower, is substantially complete. Minor snagging may still require limited traffic controls.
The council is also proposing a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing at the N11 Cornelscourt junction, including improved signals, footpaths, tactile paving, kerbing, markings and signage.
