Ireland’s next generation of agricultural technology is taking centre stage as Enterprise Ireland names 12 finalists for the 2026 Innovation Arena at the National Ploughing Championships. From AI-powered disease detection and digital compliance tools to safer machinery and emissions-reducing technologies, the shortlisted projects reflect the breadth of Irish agritech innovation.
The finalists will compete in a live pitching event at the Innovation Arena in Screggan, County Offaly, while more than 40 Irish agritech companies will exhibit their products throughout the championships.
Enterprise Ireland Innovation Arena puts Irish agritech in the spotlight
The 13th annual competition is being held under the theme “Helping Irish Agri Business Go Global”. It is designed to support entrepreneurs, researchers, students and established companies developing practical solutions for agriculture and the wider food supply chain.
This year’s competition includes four award categories:
- Young Innovator of the Year
- Start-Up of the Year, including a €10,000 prize and Enterprise Ireland mentoring
- Green Impact Award
- Innovation Arena Champion
The entries address major pressures facing Irish farming, including animal health, climate change, regulation, rising costs, farm safety, food production and operational efficiency.

Young Innovator of the Year
MastiTrak, developed by students at MTU, is working on technology to detect mastitis earlier during milking. Moore Agri has designed an axle-mounted tractor mower system intended to improve stability and safety, while WireLessCam, created by 16-year-old Blake McVicar in Monaghan, uses a portable app-connected camera to improve visibility around machinery and livestock transport.
Start-Up of the Year
Monaghan-based FURROW uses artificial intelligence and WhatsApp-based tools to help farmers organise records, understand official correspondence and manage compliance deadlines. RT Sales, from Kerry, is pitching Hitch Hero, a stabilising frame designed to reduce stress on tractors and mowers. VetPal Technology, based in Roscommon, provides a digital veterinary prescription workflow connecting farmers, vets, merchants, co-ops and pharmacies.
Green Impact Award
Magnus Monitors, Slurryquip and TERRA NutriTECH have been shortlisted for sustainability-focused innovations. Their work reflects the growing importance of resource efficiency, nutrient management and emissions reduction across the agricultural sector.
Innovation Arena Champion
Alltech, Solnua and Telenostic will compete in the established-company category, which recognises innovation and potential for further growth.
Enterprise Ireland reports strong agritech export contribution
Enterprise Ireland said Irish agritech companies it supports recorded €844 million in exports during 2025 and employed more than 5,000 people nationwide. The agency says the Innovation Arena helps companies develop domestic opportunities while preparing them for international markets.
The initiative also supports regional development, with many participating businesses based in towns and communities across Ireland. Enterprise Ireland’s wider “Growing Home” initiative focuses on showcasing regionally based companies that contribute to local economies.
The event is relevant to several areas of public policy, including the work of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, Enterprise, Trade and Employment, and Enterprise Ireland. It also complements national priorities around sustainable food production, rural development and export-led growth.
Why the Innovation Arena matters for Irish farmers
The shortlisted technologies show how innovation can be applied across the full agricultural journey, from the milking parlour and paddock to veterinary care, record keeping and the wider supply chain. Earlier disease detection may support animal welfare and reduce waste, while digital tools can make complex compliance requirements easier to manage.
At the same time, machinery safety, nutrient efficiency and lower-emissions practices are becoming increasingly important as farms respond to environmental pressures and changing regulation.
