Dublin Digest: Voter.ie Simplifies Electoral Register Updates Across Ireland

Voter.ie is now Ireland’s national online electoral registration platform, making it easier to check, register and update voting details.

Keeping your voting information accurate is now easier for residents across Ireland. The new Voter.ie platform provides a single online service to check registration status, register for the first time and update personal details before future elections and referendums.

Voter.ie brings electoral registration online

Residents are being asked to review their electoral details through Voter.ie, which has replaced CheckTheRegister.ie. The service is now available through all 31 local authorities, creating one national system for managing the electoral register.

The move is part of a wider modernisation of public services and is intended to make electoral administration more efficient. A shared platform can help local authorities process address changes, reduce duplicate entries and maintain more accurate records.

What residents can do online

Through the platform, users can:

  • Check whether they are registered to vote
  • Register online for the first time
  • Update their name, address or other personal information
  • Find electoral registration forms and guidance

Online applications and updates can be completed using MyGovID or PPSN identity verification. Paper forms will remain available for people who prefer that option or cannot use the online process.

Why checking your details matters

An incorrect address or outdated personal detail could affect a person’s ability to take part in an election or referendum. Residents who have moved home, changed their name or recently turned 18 are particularly encouraged to review their information.

For people following Dublin news and local civic developments, the new service offers a straightforward way to confirm their registration without relying solely on paper correspondence. It also supports a more consistent approach to electoral administration nationwide.

How to use the service

  1. Visit Voter.ie.
  2. Check your current electoral registration details.
  3. Submit an online registration or update request if information is missing or incorrect.
  4. Use the available paper form if online verification is not suitable.
