Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians should plan carefully this week as several closures, diversions and construction projects affect travel across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. This Dublin news update covers the main traffic measures scheduled from Saturday, 24 October, to Friday, 30 October 2026.
The information was issued by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and was current at 4pm on Thursday, 22 October. Emergency roadworks may arise without notice, so commuters should allow additional time and follow signs, temporary signals and instructions from traffic management crews.
Dublin news: Key road closures and diversions
Roads affected by planned works
- Torquay Road, Foxrock: Closed between Leopardstown Road and Golf Lane from 27 October to 1 November, daily from 8am to 6pm, for gas works. Local and pedestrian access will remain available.
- Brides Glen Road, Shankill: Closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road until 28 November during watermain installation works.
- Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines: The temporary closure between Brambledown and the Enniskerry Road junction remains in place, with signed diversions operating.
- Wyattville Link Road: A temporary 50km/h limit continues westbound between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road until 30 November, or until construction finishes.
Dublin Marathon traffic arrangements
Temporary closures will operate on Sunday, 25 October, from 9.20am to 4.30pm for the Irish Life Dublin Marathon. Affected roads include Clonskeagh Road, Roebuck Road, Foster’s Avenue, Stillorgan Road north of Foster’s Avenue and the UCD Flyover route to the Dublin City boundary. Motorists should use alternative routes and expect delays around the event corridor.
Roadworks, lane restrictions and local traffic management
Temporary traffic lights, Stop/Go systems, lane restrictions and short diversions may be used at a number of locations. Night works are planned around Rock Road, Stillorgan Road, Mount Merrion Avenue and N11 junctions, while Wyattville Road will have night-time surface water gully replacement works.
Other scheduled projects include footpath and resurfacing works at Ashlawn Park in Ballybrack, pedestrian crossing improvements at Mart Lane and Bray Road, and crossing upgrades near the Leopardstown Link Road Mastercard entrance. Further traffic signal and Stop/Go arrangements are expected at Blackrock Town Centre on 28 October.
Utility and reinstatement works are also listed for Sandyford, Dún Laoghaire, Blackrock, Stillorgan, Deansgrange, Windy Arbour and Foxrock.
Active travel and school-zone projects
The Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme is substantially complete, although snagging, landscaping and minor roadworks will continue under localised traffic management until mid-November.
Work is also continuing on the Dodder Greenway’s Ely’s Arch project at the Orwell Road and Braemor Park and Orwell Road and Dodder Road Lower junctions. Dodder Road Lower remains permanently westbound one-way from Orwell Road towards Ely’s Arch, with diversions used where necessary. Completion is expected by the end of 2026.
Safe Routes to School projects at Holy Cross National School, Carysfort National School, Holy Family National School and The Harold School are largely complete. Remaining works are mainly landscaping, surfacing or snagging, and pedestrian access will be maintained.
