A new water sports facility and upgraded public toilets could transform the visitor experience at Killiney Beach, with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council now inviting the public to comment on the plans. The consultation gives local residents, beach users, community organisations and businesses an opportunity to influence a proposed development supported by Fáilte Ireland.
Killiney Beach proposals explained
The planned project would be located close to Killiney DART Station and the beach car park on Station Road. It is intended to provide improved facilities for water-based activities while also modernising the existing public toilet provision.
According to the council, the proposed development would include:
- Changing rooms and shower facilities
- Public toilets and lockers
- Outdoor showers
- A covered area for training and preparation
- Upgraded accessible facilities within the existing toilet block
- Solar panels and a covered pedestrian walkway
- Landscaping, utility connections and related site works
The investment could support outdoor recreation and tourism at one of south Dublin’s best-known coastal locations, while making the area more practical and accessible for residents and visitors.
How to take part in the consultation
The public consultation runs from 30 October 2026 until 14 December 2026. Feedback is welcomed from anyone with an interest in the proposal, including nearby households, local clubs, visitors, traders and community groups.
Submissions can be made through the council’s online Public Consultation Hub or by email to tourism@dlrcoco.ie. Written comments should be addressed to David Lawless, Tourism Officer, Tourism Section, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, County Hall, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, A96 K6C9.
Anyone sending a written submission should quote: “Fáilte Ireland Facility for Water Based Activities PC/TOU/01/26”.
Why the project matters for south Dublin
Killiney Beach is served by public transport and attracts a wide range of users, from walkers and swimmers to families and water sports enthusiasts. New changing, storage and shower amenities could help organised activities operate more effectively throughout the year.
The planned accessibility improvements are also significant. Better public facilities, a covered pedestrian route and outdoor showers could improve comfort and ease of movement, while solar panels would introduce a renewable-energy element to the scheme.
