Dublin Digest: Road Closures and Traffic Changes Across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown

Road closures, Dublin Marathon diversions and major roadworks will affect travel across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown from 17 to 23 October 2026.

Drivers across south Dublin should plan their journeys carefully this week, with road closures, resurfacing, water infrastructure projects and overnight lane restrictions affecting several routes. This Dublin news update covers the main traffic arrangements in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown from Saturday, 17 October to Friday, 23 October 2026.

The council’s schedule was accurate at 4pm on Thursday, 15 October. Emergency works may be introduced without advance notice, so motorists should allow additional time and follow temporary signs.

Dublin road closures and major diversions

A temporary 50km/h limit remains on the westbound Wyattville Link Road between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road. The restriction supports construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass and is expected to continue until 30 November, or until the project finishes.

Brides Glen Road in Shankill remains closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road until 28 November while a large watermain is installed. Glenamuck Road in Carrickmines is also closed between Brambledown and the Enniskerry Road junction, while Barnaslingan Lane is permanently closed to through traffic at the Glenamuck Link Distributor Road. Pedestrian and cycling access is being maintained where stated.

Upcoming closure in Foxrock

Gas Networks Ireland has applied to close Torquay Road between Leopardstown Road and Golf Lane from 27 October to 1 November, daily from 8am to 6pm. Local and pedestrian access will remain available, with diversions signposted. Written observations must reach Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council by noon on 19 October.

Dublin Marathon traffic arrangements

Sections of Clonskeagh Road, Roebuck Road, Foster’s Avenue, Stillorgan Road and the UCD flyover will close on Sunday, 25 October, from 9.20am to 4.30pm for the Irish Life Dublin Marathon. A traffic management plan and signed diversions will operate throughout the event.

Overnight works will also affect parts of Rock Road, Stillorgan Road, Wyattville Road and the N11 corridor. Activities include bus-lane bollard installation, drainage-gully repairs, cleaning and hedge cutting.

Local roadworks and active travel projects

Daytime works are scheduled on Leopardstown Link Road, Booterstown Avenue, Sydney Avenue and Anglesea Avenue. Water connections and reinstatement works will also take place in Dalkey, Crofton Road, Kilternan, Mount Merrion, Loughlinstown, Killiney, Leopardstown, Ballinteer, Glenageary and Monkstown.

Telecoms ducting and chamber works may create temporary traffic management in areas including Stillorgan, Blackrock, Deansgrange, Foxrock, Clonskeagh and Castlebyrne.

The Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme is operational, although minor snagging and landscaping will continue until mid-November. Work is also progressing on the Dodder Greenway, where Dodder Road Lower now operates permanently as a westbound one-way route.

What commuters should do

  • Check journey times before leaving, particularly near the N11, Wyattville and Shankill.
  • Allow extra time for stop/go controls and temporary lane restrictions.
  • Use signed diversions rather than entering closed roads.
  • Watch for pedestrians, cyclists and crews near active travel and school projects.

These works support road safety, water services, public transport access and active travel improvements across the county. The key takeaway from this Dublin news update is simple: plan ahead, follow on-site instructions and expect changing conditions through the week.
