Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians travelling through south Dublin should allow extra time this week as road closures, utility works and active travel projects continue across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. This Dublin news update covers the main traffic changes and planned works affecting local journeys from 31 October to 6 November 2026.
The information was issued by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and was correct at 4pm on 29 October. Emergency works may arise without notice, so road users should follow signs and temporary traffic controls.
Dublin news: key road closures and diversions
Current closures
- Torquay Road, Foxrock: Closed between Leopardstown Road and Golf Lane until 1 November, from 8am to 6pm daily, for gas works. Local and pedestrian access will remain available.
- Brides Glen Road, Shankill: Closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road until 28 November during watermain installation works.
- Wyattville Link Road: Westbound traffic arrangements remain in place until 30 November as construction continues on the Beckett Link Road Project underpass.
Upcoming proposed closures
Temporary closures are also proposed for several locations. Sorrento Road in Dalkey may close between Victoria Road and Knocknacree Road on 1 and 2 December for gas works. Military Road in Ballybrack is proposed for closure on 6 December during the Christmas in the Village event, while part of Kill Avenue in Dún Laoghaire may close overnight from 23 to 27 November for the Central Active Travel Scheme.
Major works and maintenance locations
Traffic management may include temporary signals, Stop/Go systems, lane restrictions and diversions at a number of sites. Night works are scheduled around Rock Road, Stillorgan Road, Mount Merrion Avenue and N11 junctions until 6 November. Crossing and traffic-calming works are also underway at the Mart Lane and Bray Road junction, while a Toucan crossing is being built near Carrickmines Luas stop on Glenamuck Road North.
Additional works are continuing at Sydney Avenue, Anglesea Avenue, Frascati Park, Ashlawn Park and the Rock Road–Rock Hill junction. Routine maintenance, including sweeping, grass cutting and gully cleaning, is planned near Loughlinstown, Glencullen, the N11 and Wyattville Road.
Active travel and school-zone updates
The Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme is substantially complete, although landscaping, snagging and localised works will continue until mid-November. Work also continues on the Dodder Greenway at the Orwell Road, Braemor Park and Dodder Road Lower junctions. Dodder Road Lower remains permanently one-way westbound towards Ely’s Arch.
Safe Routes to School projects at Holy Cross National School, Carysfort National School, Holy Family National School and The Harold School are largely complete. Remaining works are expected to cause minimal disruption. A new signalised pedestrian crossing is also proposed at the N11 Cornelscourt Junction, including upgraded footpaths, tactile paving, kerbing, markings and signage.
