Brazil Raises Highway Tolls at Nine Paraná Collection Points

Brazil has raised highway tolls at nine Paraná collection points, including Cascavel, with revised rates effective from 8 November 2026.

Brazil has introduced revised highway toll charges at nine collection points in Paraná, including Cascavel, with the new rates taking effect from midnight on 8 November 2026. The changes affect motorists using 662.1 kilometres of roads managed by EPR Iguaçu, including sections of BR-163, BR-277, PR-182 and PR-280.

The adjustment was approved by Brazil’s National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) as part of the first ordinary tariff review under the EPR Iguaçu concession. It changes the amount paid by passenger-car drivers, commercial operators, buses and heavy vehicles, but does not introduce road closures, new entry restrictions or changes to access for visitors.

Where the new Paraná highway tolls apply

The revised charges cover nine toll stations across western and south-western Paraná. The locations are spread across four highways and include key points on the BR-277 corridor towards the Foz do Iguaçu region.

  • BR-163: Lindoeste
  • BR-277: Prudentópolis, Candói, Laranjeiras do Sul, Cascavel, Céu Azul and São Miguel do Iguaçu
  • PR-182: Ampére
  • PR-280: Pato Branco

For drivers, the total cost depends on the number of toll points encountered during the journey. A route passing through several stations will cost more than a journey using only one section of the concession network.

Updated passenger-car toll rates

ANTT’s published schedule lists the following rates for category 1 vehicles. This category includes passenger cars, pickup trucks and vans with two axles and single tyres.

Highway Toll location Previous rate New rate
BR-163 Lindoeste R$18.10 R$19.10
BR-277 Prudentópolis R$16.70 R$17.70
BR-277 Candói R$16.10 R$17.00
BR-277 Laranjeiras do Sul R$15.20 R$16.10
BR-277 Cascavel R$15.10 R$16.00
BR-277 Céu Azul R$15.20 R$16.00
BR-277 São Miguel do Iguaçu R$17.40 R$18.40
PR-182 Ampére R$13.40 R$14.20
PR-280 Pato Branco R$11.00 R$11.60

The figures above apply only to category 1 vehicles. Trucks, buses, trailers and semi-trailers are charged under separate classifications and should not use passenger-car prices when calculating a journey.

Why Brazil changed the toll tariffs

ANTT approved the adjustment through SUROD Decision No. 1,846, dated 3 November 2026 and published on 6 November. The decision represents the first ordinary review of the Basic Toll Tariff under the EPR Iguaçu concession agreement.

The calculation uses contractual mechanisms covering inflation and other specified factors. ANTT cited a 5.76% variation in Brazil’s Broad National Consumer Price Index, or IPCA, between the start of toll collection and September 2026. The review also included an adjustment factor of negative R$0.03403 and the contractual rounding rules.

Because several calculations are applied, the new rates do not represent one identical percentage increase at every toll station.

Discounts remain available for eligible drivers

Some motorists may reduce the amount paid through electronic tolling and frequent-use schemes. ANTT confirmed that eligible electronic-tag transactions continue to receive the Basic Tariff Discount, known as DBT, which provides a 5% reduction across vehicle categories under the concession’s rules.

A separate Frequent User Discount, or DUF, is available to qualifying light vehicles. It applies when the same vehicle passes through the same toll point, in the same direction, repeatedly during one calendar month.

  • The progressive discount begins with the second eligible passage.
  • The reduction increases as qualifying passages accumulate.
  • From the 30th eligible passage, the minimum contractual tariff applies for the rest of that month.
  • The concession rules apply the benefit automatically, without separate registration with EPR Iguaçu.

Eligibility depends on the applicable vehicle and transaction conditions, so drivers should check the official concession information rather than assume that every payment receives a discount.

What the change means for road travellers

Anyone driving through the affected parts of Paraná should review the route before setting out and budget for the revised charges. This includes residents, car-hire customers, long-distance motorists, coach companies, freight operators and tourism businesses using road transport.

Travellers should:

  • Identify every toll station on the planned route.
  • Check the vehicle category that applies to the car, van, bus or truck.
  • Allow for the new tariff from 8 November 2026 onwards.
  • Confirm whether an eligible electronic toll tag is being used.
  • Consult the full ANTT tariff schedule for commercial or heavy vehicles.

The decision does not confirm any specific increase in package-holiday prices, coach fares or other tourism costs. Any wider commercial effect will depend on individual operators and should not be treated as an automatic consequence of the toll review.

Key takeaway for journeys through Paraná

The revised Paraná highway tolls are now in force at nine EPR Iguaçu collection points, including Cascavel, São Miguel do Iguaçu and Céu Azul. Drivers should calculate the number of toll stations on their route, use the correct vehicle category and check whether electronic-payment discounts apply before travelling. The latest official rates and any future changes should be confirmed through ANTT and EPR Iguaçu.
