Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians should plan carefully this week as the latest Dublin news highlights closures, lane restrictions and active-travel works across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. The council’s update covers Saturday, 31 October, to Friday, 6 November 2026, while several longer-term projects will continue into November and December.
Emergency works may arise without notice, so travellers are advised to allow extra time, follow diversion signs and observe temporary traffic controls.
Dublin travel: key closures and traffic changes
Current closures
- Torquay Road, Foxrock: Closed between Leopardstown Road and Golf Lane until 1 November, from 8am to 6pm daily, for gas works. Local and pedestrian access remains available.
- Brides Glen Road, Shankill: Closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road until 28 November during watermain installation.
- Wyattville Link Road: Westbound traffic arrangements remain in place until 30 November as the Beckett Link Road underpass is constructed.
Planned future closures
Several closures have also been proposed. Sorrento Road in Dalkey may close on 1 and 2 December for gas works, while Military Road in Ballybrack is proposed for closure on 6 December during a Christmas in the Village event. A section of Kill Avenue beside Ashgrove is expected to close overnight from 23 to 27 November for works connected with the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme.
Residents wishing to submit observations on the Sorrento Road proposal must do so by noon on 18 November 2026.
Major roadworks across the county
Night works are continuing around Rock Road, Stillorgan Road, Mount Merrion Avenue and the N11 junctions, with improvements to signage, delineator bollards and pedestrian crossings scheduled until 6 November. Other projects include:
- Pedestrian crossing and speed-ramp works at Mart Lane and Bray Road until 20 November.
- Toucan crossing construction near Carrickmines Luas stop on Glenamuck Road North from 3 November to 1 December.
- Junction works at Rock Road and Rock Hill on 3 November between 7pm and 11pm.
- Water upgrades around Sydney Avenue, Anglesea Avenue and Frascati Park in Blackrock until 30 November.
- Footpath replacement and resurfacing at Ashlawn Park, Ballybrack, until 27 November.
Active travel and school-route progress
The Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme is substantially complete and operational, although snagging, landscaping and localised works will continue under traffic management until mid-November.
Work also continues on the Dodder Greenway at the Orwell Road, Braemor Park and Dodder Road Lower junctions. Final surfacing at Braemor Park is complete, while footpath and tactile paving works remain ongoing. Dodder Road Lower continues to operate as a permanent westbound one-way street towards Ely’s Arch, with completion expected by the end of 2026.
Safe Routes to School projects at Holy Cross National School, Carysfort National School, Holy Family National School and The Harold School are largely complete. Remaining activity mainly involves landscaping and minor snagging, with minimal disruption expected.

What travellers should do
- Check the route before leaving, particularly if travelling through Foxrock, Shankill, Blackrock, Ballybrack or Dún Laoghaire.
- Allow additional time for diversions, temporary signals and night works.
- Use signed alternative routes and avoid entering closed sections.
- Drivers should check separate M50 updates from M50 Concession Limited.
These works are designed to support safer roads, improved pedestrian access and better active-travel connections. The main takeaway from this week’s Dublin news is simple: check conditions in advance and leave extra time when travelling through Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
