Why community-focused AI matters in Ireland
Artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing how people work, access information and interact with public services. A community-led learning model can help ensure that people are not excluded from these changes because of limited technical knowledge, access barriers or uncertainty about how AI affects everyday life.
The initiative also reflects wider national interest in responsible technology, digital inclusion and accessible innovation. Organisations across Ireland, including gov.ie departments and public bodies such as the Health Service Executive (HSE), are examining how digital tools can improve services while maintaining trust, safety and accountability.
The residency gives participants the chance to test ideas in a real community setting and contribute to a more informed conversation about the opportunities and challenges created by AI.
