Old Wesley return to Division 1A spotlight
Castle Avenue will host one of the weekend’s headline occasions when Old Wesley meet Clontarf for the first time in the Energia All-Ireland League. For Old Wesley, it is a landmark return to Division 1A and their first match at Ireland’s highest club level in more than 29 years.
Defending champions St Mary’s College begin their title defence with a difficult Dublin derby against Lansdowne. The clubs met in the Leinster Senior Cup final only days ago, when Lansdowne claimed victory, adding another layer of intrigue to their league meeting.
Cork Constitution face Terenure College in another demanding contest. Cork Constitution narrowly missed the semi-finals last season, while Terenure reached the last four and will arrive with ambitions of challenging near the top again.
The remaining Division 1A fixtures see Young Munster host Old Belvedere at Tom Clifford Park, while Ballynahinch welcome UCD to Ballymacarn Park.
Division 1B brings new challenges and promotion ambitions
MU Barnhall will make club history when they play their first Division 1 fixture away to Blackrock College at Stradbrook. The all-Leinster meeting provides an immediate test for the promoted side.
Dublin University, who fell short in their promotion bid last season, start on the road against City of Armagh. Instonians, third in the previous campaign, travel to Garryowen in another fixture involving sides with promotion aspirations.
Highfield face relegated Nenagh Ormond in a Munster derby, while Naas host UCC at Forenaughts. With several ambitious clubs targeting a move upwards, the opening results could quickly establish the early shape of the division.
Galwegians begin Division 2A comeback
Galwegians return to Division 2A after a seven-year absence and open their campaign against Dungannon. The teams know each other well, having last met in Division 2B just over a year ago.
Shannon and Queen’s University get the division underway at the Thomond Park Back Pitch, with the visitors seeking to respond strongly after relegation from Division 1B.
Newly promoted UL Bohemian travel to Cashel for a Munster clash, while Ballymena host Greystones. Galway Corinthians welcome Wanderers in a fixture with a history of memorable contests.
Enniskillen make All-Ireland League debut
The newly restructured Division 2B North will feature another important first as Enniskillen enter the Energia All-Ireland League for the first time. Their opening home match against Rainey will be broadcast live on Irish Rugby+, giving the Ulster club a national platform on debut.
Ballyclare and Sligo also meet for the first time, while Clogher Valley renew acquaintances with Malahide at The Cran. Malone host Banbridge in an Ulster derby, and Skerries welcome Navan in a Leinster contest.
Munster clubs ready for Division 2B South
Bruff make their first journey to Dubarry Park in almost 14 years when they face Buccaneers. Both clubs will view the fixture as an opportunity to establish momentum in the restructured competition.
Bective Rangers and Old Crescent meet at Energia Park for the first time since 2017. Dolphin host Enniscorthy in a rematch one year after their previous meeting, while Monkstown and Clonmel renew a rivalry that has produced several tight encounters.
The opening round concludes with an all-Munster meeting between Thomond and Midleton on Shannonside, adding another local contest to an already compelling schedule.
