IHG to Open 250-Room Crowne Plaza Hotel in New Cairo in 2031

IHG Hotels & Resorts is expanding its Egyptian portfolio with a planned 250-room Crowne Plaza hotel in Sixth Settlement, New Cairo. The property is expected to welcome guests in the first quarter of 2031, adding new premium accommodation for business and leisure visitors in one of Cairo’s fastest-growing districts.

The development follows a management agreement between IHG and Kleek Development, a joint venture between Emaar Al Delta for Contracting and Real Estate Investment and Modern Style Home Real Estate Company. The project forms part of IHG’s broader expansion across Egypt and reflects the continuing development of East Cairo.

New Crowne Plaza will target business and leisure travellers

Crowne Plaza New Cairo will be located in Sixth Settlement, an expanding mixed-use area near residential communities, commercial facilities and business hubs. The district has attracted increased investment as new infrastructure and urban development reshape the eastern side of the Egyptian capital.

For travellers, the hotel is planned as more than a conventional overnight property. Its design will combine accommodation, meeting facilities, dining and wellness amenities for guests visiting New Cairo for work, events or leisure.

Planned facilities include:

  • 250 rooms and suites
  • Four food and beverage outlets
  • An all-day dining restaurant
  • A lobby lounge and bar
  • Six meeting and event venues
  • A ballroom for conferences and private functions
  • A swimming pool and fitness centre
  • A spa and retail outlets

Hotel will include flexible work and lifestyle spaces

The planned Crowne Plaza New Cairo will incorporate features designed around travellers who combine business and personal time during the same trip. The hotel’s Plaza Workspace concept is intended to create a flexible lobby environment where guests can work, meet colleagues, socialise or relax.

The property will also include WorkLife Rooms, with separate zones for working, resting and sleeping. These rooms are designed to support longer or more flexible stays, particularly for corporate travellers who need reliable connectivity and practical space within their accommodation.

The meeting facilities could also make the hotel relevant to companies holding conferences, business meetings and private events in East Cairo. However, the hotel remains a planned development and the facilities described are subject to the project being delivered as announced.

IHG continues to expand its Egypt hotel pipeline

The New Cairo agreement adds to IHG Hotels & Resorts’ growing presence in Egypt. The company currently manages 10 operating hotels in the country and has a further 28 properties in its development pipeline.

That pipeline underlines Egypt’s importance to IHG’s wider growth strategy. Cairo remains a major commercial and cultural centre, while emerging districts such as New Cairo are creating demand for accommodation closer to new offices, residential areas and development zones.

The project is being developed with Kleek Development, which described New Cairo as a rapidly expanding area with growing interest from residents, businesses and visitors. The agreement gives the Crowne Plaza brand a planned presence in a district that is increasingly separate from the traditional central-Cairo hotel market.

What the hotel project means for future visitors

Crowne Plaza New Cairo is not scheduled to open until the first quarter of 2031, so it will not affect current hotel bookings or immediate travel plans. Travellers visiting Cairo before then will need to choose from hotels already operating in the city and confirm locations carefully, as New Cairo is a substantial distance from some central attractions and transport hubs.

When completed, the hotel is expected to appeal particularly to:

  • Corporate travellers working in East Cairo
  • Delegates attending conferences and business events
  • Visitors seeking accommodation near New Cairo communities
  • Leisure guests who prefer modern mixed-use districts
  • Travellers looking for internationally branded hotel accommodation

Guests planning future trips should wait for confirmed opening information, room availability and booking details from IHG or the hotel once construction and pre-opening preparations progress.

New Cairo’s growing role in Egypt’s hospitality market

The project highlights how Cairo’s hospitality landscape is expanding beyond the city’s established central areas. New Cairo has developed into an important destination for offices, residential communities and commercial activity, creating demand for hotels that can serve local business needs as well as international visitors.

For Egypt’s tourism sector, additional branded accommodation may support conferences, corporate travel and longer stays. The hotel’s combination of rooms, dining outlets, meeting venues and leisure facilities is designed to serve several visitor groups from one location.

Conclusion

The planned Crowne Plaza New Cairo will add 250 rooms and a substantial range of business and leisure facilities to Sixth Settlement, with opening expected in the first quarter of 2031. For now, the project is a future hotel development rather than an immediate travel change, but it signals IHG’s continued confidence in New Cairo and the wider Egyptian hospitality market.
