Irish sports technology company Hexis has secured fresh backing in a move that highlights the growing momentum behind Ireland’s high-performance innovation sector. The Hexis seed round, valued at €1.85 million, will help the Dublin-founded company deepen its reach in elite sport while preparing a broader direct-to-consumer launch later this year.
Announced with support from Enterprise Ireland, the new funding round was led by returning investor APEX Capital and also included ScaleX. The investment marks another step forward for a platform already used by professional teams and athletes across the UK, Europe, the United States and Australia.
Hexis seed round backed by Enterprise Ireland and APEX Capital
The Hexis seed round reflects investor confidence in a business built around performance nutrition, athlete data and carbohydrate periodisation. APEX Capital had previously invested in Hexis at pre-seed stage in 2024, and its follow-on commitment signals belief in both the company’s scientific model and commercial growth.
Enterprise Ireland’s participation is especially significant for Ireland’s startup ecosystem. As one of the State bodies supporting scaling Irish businesses, Enterprise Ireland continues to play a visible role alongside organisations such as IDA Ireland, gov.ie and the Department of the Taoiseach in promoting internationally ambitious companies. In this case, the backing also points to the strength of the Irish sports tech sector.
- Funding secured: €1.85 million
- Lead investor: APEX Capital
- Other investors: Enterprise Ireland and ScaleX
- Primary goals: elite sport expansion and consumer platform growth
What the Hexis platform does
Hexis develops personalised nutrition tools designed to help athletes match fuelling strategies to training load, recovery and performance goals. Its platform is based on the science of carbohydrate periodisation and uses workout and wearable data to tailor nutrition guidance in real time.
The company has built integrations with Garmin, WHOOP and Apple Health, along with sports performance systems such as Catapult and STATSports. That connected ecosystem allows practitioners and athletes to adapt fuelling plans using live data rather than generic meal advice.
Hexis says it will use the latest capital to invest further in its Coach Hub, a practitioner-focused system that helps performance staff deliver personalised nutrition plans across entire squads.

Expansion plans in elite sport and consumer health
A major part of the Hexis seed round will support expansion beyond professional sport. While the company has already established credibility with elite teams, it is now building infrastructure and athlete-facing features for a larger consumer audience.
That strategy mirrors a wider trend in sports science, where tools first used by top-tier athletes are being adapted for everyday performance users. Rather than focusing on generic calorie tracking, Hexis is positioning itself around smarter fuelling for training, endurance and recovery.
The business has also expanded its team, reporting 33% headcount growth. New senior appointments include a Vice President of Performance Solutions and a Head of Growth, both aimed at supporting the next stage of scale.

Why this funding matters for Ireland’s innovation economy
The Hexis seed round is more than a company update. It also underlines how Irish firms are developing globally relevant products in specialist sectors, from Health and Education technology to sports science and digital performance tools. Alongside agencies and public bodies such as the Revenue Commissioners, Health Service Executive (HSE), Central Bank, CSO and Workplace Relations Commission (WRC), Enterprise Ireland remains part of the wider institutional landscape that supports business growth and economic development.
Founded by Dr. David Dunne, Dr. Xiaoxi Yan and Dr. Sam Impey, Hexis combines behaviour change science, data science and metabolism research into a platform designed for measurable performance gains.
In short, the Hexis seed round places the company in a strong position to scale from elite teams to a wider fitness and performance audience. For Ireland’s startup scene, it is another clear signal that science-led innovation with global ambition continues to attract serious investor support.
