Glanua has formally opened a new engineering office in Lisbon as the Irish water and environmental infrastructure group strengthens its international operations. The move gives the company a larger base for specialist design and digital delivery work while creating a platform for further expansion across Ireland, the UK, Portugal and the United States.
The Lisbon operation, established in late 2025, already employs more than 20 engineering professionals. Glanua plans to add five more engineers by the end of 2026 and ultimately grow the Portuguese team to 40 people.
A growing engineering centre in Lisbon
The new office supports projects throughout the Glanua Group, with staff working across engineering, design, building information modelling (BIM) and digital delivery. Its rapid growth led the company to move into a larger, newly established premises.
Lisbon was selected because of Portugal’s strong engineering tradition, graduate talent and recognised expertise in water and environmental engineering. Glanua has also developed relationships with NOVA University Lisbon and the University of Lisbon, helping graduates begin and develop careers within the business.
The office opening was attended by Alma Ní Choigligh, Ireland’s Ambassador to Portugal, Alberto Cisterna, Enterprise Ireland’s Director for Spain and Portugal, Glanua executives, business partners and members of the Lisbon team.
Why Portugal matters to Glanua’s growth plans
Although the Lisbon office is a recent development, Glanua’s links with Portugal extend back several years. Portuguese engineers and technical specialists have contributed to projects across the company and helped build the relationship that now underpins the engineering hub.
For Glanua, the Portuguese team is designed to work as part of a wider international network rather than as a standalone operation. Combining expertise from Portugal with teams in Ireland, the UK and other markets is expected to increase the group’s capacity to deliver complex infrastructure projects.
The expansion also reflects a broader pattern in business news Ireland, with Irish companies increasingly using overseas offices to access skilled workers, support clients and build international scale.
