Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians travelling through south Dublin should plan ahead as a busy programme of roadworks and traffic controls takes effect from Saturday, 17 October, through Friday, 23 October 2026. This Dublin news update covers closures, overnight works, water connections and active travel projects across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
Dublin roadworks: key closures and diversions
A temporary 50 km/h limit remains on the westbound Wyattville Link Road between Cherrywood Avenue and the Cherrywood M50 southbound slip road. The restriction supports construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass and is scheduled to remain until 30 November, or until the project finishes.
Brides Glen Road in Shankill is closed between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road until 28 November while a large watermain is installed. Glenamuck Road in Carrickmines is also closed between Brambledown and the Enniskerry Road junction, while Barnaslingan Lane is permanently closed to through traffic at the Glenamuck Link Distributor Road. Pedestrian and cyclist access remains available at Barnaslingan Lane.
Upcoming Torquay Road closure
Gas Networks Ireland has applied to close Torquay Road in Foxrock, between Leopardstown Road and Golf Lane, from 27 October to 1 November. The proposed daily hours are 8am to 6pm. Local and pedestrian access is expected to remain available, with diversions signposted. Written observations must reach Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council by noon on 19 October.
Dublin Marathon traffic arrangements
Several roads will close on Sunday, 25 October, for the Irish Life Dublin Marathon. Affected routes include Clonskeagh Road, Roebuck Road, Foster’s Avenue, part of Stillorgan Road, and the UCD flyover towards the Dublin City boundary. Closures are planned from 9.20am to 4.30pm, with traffic management and signed diversion routes in operation.
Night works and daytime restrictions
Overnight activity will include bus-lane delineator installation on sections of Rock Road and Stillorgan Road, surface-water gully repairs on Wyattville Road, and maintenance along the N11 corridor. Gully cleaning at White’s Cross is scheduled for 17 and 18 October, with stop/go controls in place.
Daytime works include pedestrian-crossing upgrades on Leopardstown Link Road, ESB works near Stonebridge and the R837, carriageway reinstatement at Booterstown Avenue, and water rehabilitation works around Sydney Avenue and Anglesea Avenue in Blackrock.

Active travel and school safety projects
The Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme is operational, although localised snagging, landscaping and minor roadworks will continue until mid-November. Work also continues on the Dodder Greenway at the Orwell Road junctions. Dodder Road Lower now operates permanently as a westbound one-way street from Orwell Road towards Ely’s Arch.
Safe Routes to School projects at Holy Cross National School, Carysfort National School, Holy Family National School and The Harold School are largely complete. Remaining surfacing, landscaping and finishing work may create limited daytime disruption, while pedestrian and local access will be maintained.

A proposed signalised pedestrian crossing at the N11 Cornelscourt junction would improve access to nearby bus stops and safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The proposal includes new markings, kerbing, tactile paving, signs and signal modifications.
Motorists should allow extra time, follow temporary signs and obey traffic controllers. Checking routes before departure will be especially important around the N11, Cherrywood, Shankill, Foxrock and marathon routes. For residents and commuters, this Dublin news briefing offers the essential information needed to plan safer journeys during the week.
