Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown is set for a major programme of public investment after the county council secured approximately €17.1 million for six regeneration projects. The funding will support new community facilities, improved streets, sustainable transport, public spaces and long-term urban planning across the county.
The allocation comes through the first call of the Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund, which has replaced the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund. The programme is designed to support sustainable communities and urban renewal across Ireland.
Dublin news: Six projects receive regeneration funding
The successful schemes range from immediate public-realm upgrades to strategic planning projects intended to guide future development. Together, they cover Blackrock, Dún Laoghaire, Dundrum, Sandyford and Shankill.
- Blackrock Bath Place: €150,000 will support design work and studies for a future public plaza, mobility hub and improved links between Blackrock DART station, Blackrock Park and nearby streets.
- Metals Green, Dún Laoghaire: €1.8 million will fund an accessible urban park with upgraded paths, an open lawn, play facilities and space for community events and a small café or food kiosk.
- Dundrum Living Streets: €7.4 million will deliver permanent cycling and pedestrian improvements on Dundrum Main Street, alongside planting, street furniture and safer routes near Holy Cross School.
- Sandyford Urban Framework Plan Review: €150,000 will support a wider masterplanning process covering racecourse lands and adjoining public land, with a focus on housing, transport, employment and amenities.
- Imaginosity refurbishment: €7.5 million is earmarked to acquire and repurpose the vacant building at Beacon South Quarter as an accessible community and library facility.
- Shanganagh Castle Development: €150,000 will support an integrated urban strategy, conservation work, archaeological assessments and an economic plan for the protected structure and its surroundings.
The projects are divided between Category 1A and Category 1B funding. Category 1A supports longer-term developments, while Category 1B is intended for projects that can progress more quickly and reach site by September 2027.

The programme could reshape how residents move through, use and experience several of the county’s busiest areas. Dundrum’s streetscape and cycling changes are intended to improve safety and accessibility, while Metals Green will create a more inclusive setting for recreation and local events.
