Dublin Digest: Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Traffic and Roadworks Update

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians across south Dublin should prepare for a busy week on local roads. This Dublin news update outlines closures, diversions, resurfacing projects and active-travel works scheduled in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown from Saturday 26 September to Friday 2 October 2026.

The council said the information reflects notices received by 4pm on Thursday 24 September. Emergency works may still be introduced at short notice, so road users are advised to allow extra time and follow signs at each location.

Dublin road closures and major traffic restrictions

Bride’s Glen Road, Shankill

The closure of Bride’s Glen Road between Rathmichael Road and Mullinastill Road has been extended until 28 November. Uisce Éireann is installing a large-diameter watermain, with signed diversion routes available.

Killiney Hill Road

Killiney Hill Road will close between Victoria Road and Military Road from 29 September to 1 October, daily between 8am and 6pm. The restriction is linked to gas network works. Local and pedestrian access will remain available.

Mounttown Road Lower

A northbound-only system remains in operation between Kill Avenue and York Road as part of the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme. Southbound traffic must use signed alternative routes. The arrangement is expected to continue until 30 October.

Wyattville Link Road

The westbound section between Cherrywood Avenue and the M50 southbound on-slip remains closed until 30 November. The restriction supports construction of the Wyattville Link Road underpass within the Beckett Link Road Project.

Roadworks affecting Blackrock, Dundrum and Dún Laoghaire

Several smaller projects will require temporary traffic controls, road narrowing or Stop/Go systems:

  • Rehabilitation works are planned around Sydney Avenue, George’s Avenue and Frascati Park Road in Blackrock from 26 September to 3 October.
  • Water connection works will take place at Belclare, Newtownpark Avenue, between 29 September and 1 October.
  • Reinstatement works are scheduled for Sandyford Road and Mulvey Park Road in Dundrum on 28 September.
  • Night-time resurfacing continues on Nutgrove Way until 7 October.
  • Smart sign poles will be installed on Cumberland Street, York Road and Clarence Street from 29 September to 7 October, while two-way traffic is maintained.

Additional reinstatement works are planned in Glenageary, Dalkey, Shankill, Foxrock and Leopardstown during the week. Temporary restrictions may be introduced as crews move between locations.

Active travel, school works and marathon proposal

Construction continues on the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme and the Dodder Greenway’s Ely’s Arch Project. Stop/Go arrangements may operate around Orwell Road and Dodder Road Lower.

Finishing works at Holy Cross NS in Dundrum, Carysfort National School in Blackrock, Holy Family National School in Monkstown and The Harold School in Glasthule are expected to cause minimal disruption.

The council has also received an application to close sections of Clonskeagh Road, Roebuck Road, Foster’s Avenue and Stillorgan Road on Sunday 25 October for the Irish Life Dublin Marathon. Observations or objections must reach the Traffic Section by 7 October.

Residents can monitor official notices and plan journeys through the council’s traffic information service at dlrcoco.ie/traffic-news. Allow additional travel time, check diversion signs and take extra care near schools and active construction zones.

The key takeaway for this week’s Dublin news is simple: several long-running closures continue while short-term works are being added across the county. Checking conditions before travelling can help motorists, cyclists and pedestrians avoid delays.
