Astronomical events rarely become energy stories, but Wednesday’s solar eclipse is forcing grid planners to act. According to Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN), the eclipse on 12 August is expected to reduce solar generation in Portugal by about 450 MW between 18:30 and 20:30 local time.
